Republic Act No. 10661, or National Children's Month Act, is celebrated each November to commemorate the passage of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child on November 20, 1989. The Department of Social Welfare and Development has been identified as the primary agency running the celebration.
This month-long celebration aims to raise awareness among Filipinos and support the promotion and protection of children's rights.
Before the Philippines celebrated Children's Month, many countries around the world had already celebrated Children's Day. It was June 1857 Dr. Charles Leonard held a special service for children. It was first called "Rose Day", then "Flower Day", and finally "Children's Day".
The first country to make this holiday a national holiday was Turkey in 1920. However, it was not until the World Congress on the Welfare of Children in Geneva, Switzerland in 1925 that the International Children's Day was proclaimed that the holiday was adopted worldwide. On June 1, 1950, many communist and post-communist countries also began to observe International Children's Day, including the Joint Resolution of India and Uruguay in 1954.
On November 20, 1989, the Philippines adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child for the first time at the United Nations. The National Youth Commission (N.Y.C.), the Council on Child Welfare (C.W.C.), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (D.S.W.D.) are committed to developing charities, programs, and events to assist children in need. Obliged.
National Children's Month aims to help children suffering from abuse, poverty, natural disasters and violence. In fact, in 2013 alone, the proportion of children experiencing abuse, poverty, natural disasters and violence was worryingly high. I got taller.
